Green
On one of the largest village greens in Essex there
are a total of four guide posts. Three are modern wooden
replacements. The example shown here is cast iron by Maldon Iron
Works. Three arms, tapered post and conical finial. It has
suffered in times past and two arms have had crude repairs. To the
Epping direction the arm has been repaired with metal plates. The
main arm pointing to London has a very crude repair. (See the
bottom pictures) The two halves of the broken arm are secured by a
plank of wood on one side on which new lettering has been applied,
albeit without the fractions of miles. Except for repairs, the
overall condition is fair. |

| Refurbishment
underway (3 April 2005)
The photo on the right shows the post under refurbishment. The arms have all been reinforced with welded steel channel on the edges so the wooden repair can be removed. New image online when work completed.
